I would gladly take a tundra over my Dak. I was stupid enough to trade in my last toyota for a 4 door dakota. I needed the space. Well, 7 months into the deal, my Dak is getting ready to go in for the 4th time. Alignment, ball joints, fuel pump, now my reverse lights don't work. Woopdy friggen doooo!. I drive easy, highway miles. This is not a work truck. I miss my toyota. I see the arguments about how and where these trucks are built being a factor. How about this. Toyota's are the best engineered truck, wherever they are built.
Hate my dak

I have had my experiences with toyota and no thanks. Nothing but problems.

Heater broke
Head gasket.
Tranny 1 changed.
4wdrive button on shifter didnt work.

Toyota service was the worst ever and they tried to get out of fixing anything for free. Dodge is not like that to me and thats where you can find me from now on...

Every person has a different story. Never make the mistake of just listening to one person or pne place. I personally feel that toys are a bit chinsy and are not built real tough, but they do last a long time, I DO know that. In my family, our '94 GMC 1500 has done better than any of the toys we've had, EASY engine to work on too since it's a V6, you can fit a human body in there! It's runs clean, runs well, nothing breaks, nothing getting old or worn out, just takes a long time to get the heater going on it.

Here in Montana, I do see a lot of Toyotas and old Nissans (80s), but it's nothing compared to the old Chevs, Ford, and Dodges...I don't know if it's the hick population or what up here, but it seems they do a lot well up here than the smaller trucks.

Hey Mar, from what I've heard and read on this site, youre in the minority. It seems everyone complains constantly about something on their trucks. I dont know if its a Gen 3 thing or what, but all I know is the Daks are good looking powerfull trucks, but the owners always seem to be griping about something or another

I drove a 2002 Tundra Limited ($29K) yesterday and thought it was pretty nice. For that price it should have another gear in the autotranny, and a full electric right seat with lumbar adjust, but aside from that it's not bad. Much better fit and finish plus overall design than the competetion.

This is my opinion. Yes Tundras are nice trucks and they should be for today's demand from the casual consumer.

Is anyone here a casual consumer? If so, the Tundra will be a very nice appliance for you.

My Dakota has never had a major problem. Everthing I have done to it for performance has always been rewarding. I expected some amount of problems after modding but they never manifested.

I ran across a Tundra coming out of the Toyota dealership on my way home from work one day last June. Two salesmen (worms) in it laughing at my truck (Iforce giddys.) Rarely do I let it hang out on the street but I let the worms have it.

I busted there a$$ in a 1000 foot contest and yes they were trying (because it was not there truck/dealer tag.)

At the next light they would not even look at me.
I was laughing then.

Buy what you want or need. I can respect anyone thats willing to try to prove there point. Just don't be upset at the outcome.

It's your money.

you guys can talk all u want about this topic. i have a 99 5.2L and have driven a tundra the 4.7...all i can say is that the tundra is quick and much better built, very solid. If I were looking for a long term truck, i would go with the tundra, but for raw power and muscle, I wouldn't trade my Dak for anything.

You know even RollRoyce must build the ocasional lemon. What realy worrys me is the huge number of owners on this board that have had the exact same proplems. The most comon ones are as follows: warped rotors and drums, lots of forign matter in paint, mis-aligned box or axles, stalling in an automatic, haveing to reprogram the ecm or pcm more then once, lsd's failing, and tranny's slipping with less than 36,000 miles on them.

How come my 99 Dakota with 42K miles on it has been flawless thus far (less the occasional "minor" stuff, i.e. thermostat, the occasional "pop" sound in the rear, the pending worn rubber bushings here and there? It's only a machine my friends.
I lived in Japan in the mid-90's. Sasebo, to be exact, on Kyushu Island about 40 miles from Nagasaki. No doubt about it -- ask any Japanese "gearhead" (that understands English) Toyota is number one in that country. Nissans are #2 and Mazda's are viewed as crapola.
One thing I found interesting. Japan has no natural resources (oil, gas, metal, rubber, etc.). Everything is imported -- right down to wood for chop sticks (called Hashi over there) and paper (however, they use both in excess). You can't purchase ANYTHING over there without a complementary gift wrap of comprised of a couple yards of paper. Metal for automobiles, ships, rims (and everything else) is imported from Russia and/or Australia or elsewhere. Now, we all know the amount of "quality" placed into the build of a Russian vehicle! LOL! Domo Arigato Gozaimas-Ta!!

Don't get too horny over a Tundra. Think T100. Had a buddy that bought a 1st year T100. It was an ok truck until the warranty ran out. Parts were always hard to find (unless he went to a dealer) and expensive. Not to mention that Toyota bailed after a 5 year production run. The Tundra could have the same fate.
