Well, I did it. I am dealing with a dealer regarding a new 1500 (Red, of course). I told him I want a 5 speed manual 5.9, no leather, air, 4X4, long bed, 2 door. He's working out the quote right now based on the mileage on my 99 Dak and other factors. These 1500's -- I contend -- are too damned expensive. I told him I want a GREAT deal, or don't even bother. I'll drive the Dakota until it croaks. Anyone drive the new Mayor? Thoughts? Opinions? Blood Pressure readings? Personally, I think it makes an awesome statement on the road. I am also sure resale sux... but, who cares when it's new. - Jim

I drove a QC with the 20" wheels. Very nice but
felt really big after driving my Dakota. It had a
4.7L Auto in it. Rear doors are still kinda
small. It is almost like DC hade an after
thought and said lets put in rear doors. Hood
and grill are huge. Would I but one? You bet I
will when the star clearencing them for 2003. I
thought the price was resonable especially if
compared to the Ford or Chevy, or even one of
those rice burners.

I have the new 1500. Its a awsome truck and it has the best ride. Quality is right up there with mercedies its really great.

However you cant get the 5.9 with 5 speed manual. Only the 4.7. I have the 5.9 auto and its great but i think if i were to do it again i would look at the 4.7 manual like my dake. THe manual just seems to make more out of the engine.

You should work on a price before you discuss any trade-ins. They're going to screw you one way or the other.

This is what I would do. Go to the car dealer up the road (another Dodge dealer is prefferable), and simply inquire what they'd give you for yours on a trade in. Keep that number in mind.

Ask the Dodge dealer what the smallest markup over invoice they accept is. After settling on a price, TELL him what your truck is worth (and make sure he knows that the dealer up the road said they'd give you that much), then let him take it back and get a price he's willing to give you. Then, after that's all said and done, tell him you'll take it if they throw in a bed liner and a bug deflector (or whatever else you want).

Not that you don't know what you're doing, but I work at a dealer and have talked with salesmen before. If you go in there and throw your cards all out on the table, they're going to end up screwing you somehow.
