Subject: 4400miles in 6days~ IP: Logged
Message: Happy new year!
I just moved from Michigan to L.A.
To save some money I loaded my stuff on my truck and drove all the way down.
For little fun on the way to L.A. I stoped on several national parks (yellow stone, brace canyon, Zion, Arks, grand canyon, death valley and some more) so this way I put over 4000 miles in my truck, My little dakota (3.9 sc 4x2) was perfect running solid (I ran over 90mph most of trip)untill I got near Las Vegas.
Sudenlly canr over heated and battery died, so I had to tow the truck to Selligman(small crappy tonw in arizona) and I found out that water pump was some how destroyed as well as fan belt and idle pulley; incredibly and surprisinglly my catalysis converter was blown up too.
Do you guys think that this is usual troble?
and what's reasonable price to fix those problems? I ended up paying 1060$ $hit any how my truck is running fine now except the transmision which won't shift from 1st to 2nd under full aceleration.
Best,
JP

Message: wow, thats a crazy story. I dont see why they woudl say the cat went bad. Either it got really clogged and caused back pressure or they ripped you. My guess is the latter.

Message: Damn, just a couple stops.. I really like most of those parks too and usually stop by any of them on the way, but I never have been to Death Valley. Did you hit Arches and Devils Tower?
BTW, I think that small town guy screwed you.

Message: The only experience I ever had with a vehicle in AZ was 15 years ago and got the same rip-off treatment. Pulled into some back desert town by the Grand Canyon for gas, the guy said "mind if I check the tire pressures? Wouldn't want you to have a blow out in the middle of the desert." Like a dope I agreed and next thing I know my right front $200 Goodyear tire suddenly had one of the steel belts cut and air bellowing out of the tire.
Only had about 10,000 miles on them so I told the guy to get lost, put the spare on and got the hell out of that town...Goodyear said it wasn't the tire, probably a knife, prorated the usage and gave me a 30% discount off the wholesale price for having an jerk for a dealer.
I feel for you JP I believe you got hosed.
