You can try unplugging the pcm and check all the connections.

where exactly is the pcm and is this the same as others have called the ECM?

Now is there some harness that away from any pcm or ecm corrodes and that may be the problem?

tks, Greg

genmann1956 There was a problem with the older Dakotas involving an under wire splice, However I have not heard of any past 1996 with the problem.
I think you're safe there.

I am unsure of the location of your pcm but yes it is also called the ecm. Maybe one of the guys familiar with the 2000's and up can help you.

Okay you guys out there, I have a 1999 dodge Dakota 4 X 4 with only about 39K miles on it. It has started to run rough, I can make it backfire, and it has stalled after a turn. When I go to restart it it starts up and runs okay. I put some Heat in the fuel, but that did not seem to help much. The first time I noticed it was when I made a wide fast turn onto the highway on ramp. This has now happened about 3 time, at times it runs fine. I thought fuel pump filter? Water in the fuel, but I have new fuel and Heat in it. I did get it to back fire when I tried to pump the fuel, the check engine light read P1391, I reset it and it has not been back since. I hate to change the fuel pump if it is not the pump or filter on the end of the pump. Everything else works fine. I have a 5 speed manual, 3.9L. Any help would be great.

My 98 dak started to stalling 2-3yrs after I bought the truck new, had the the tech do stuff but still continues and had been a yearly event when temperaure rise/drop to around 0 degrees celcuis and humidity levels are high, my truck stalls at low RPMs. From the problem people have been having my problem might be solved with the oxygen scensor. But if this is related to the environmental factors will a new scensor help?
Has anyone notice this with thier stalling trucks?

Okay my 1999 Dakota with a 3.9L stalls out when it is real cold out, after about 15 minutes it runs fine as if there is no problem. To keep it running I give it some gas and can get it to back fire. All the wires and plugs seems oaky, I moved them all and no shock, look clean. I think it is temperature related, so what can it be? I get a misfire code if I try and keep it running, after about 50 or 100 miles the check engine light goes out on its own if I don't reset it. It always starts right back up, even when running rough. So it runs great once it is warmed up for about 15 minutes or so of driving.
Now any of you got any ideas on what to check. I talked to a Dodge Tec. he said pay your money and I will take a look at it. He said change your plugs and wires, I don't think that is the problem here. Any help?

What and where is the distributor pickup?
Now my truck has never stalled once it warmed up for about 15 minutes or so. When it looses power I can keep it running, but it has no power to even move the truck. I have a 5 speed with clutch.
So if it is cold related, what would cause that?
Once it warms up it runs like new.
Okay you Dodge guys what is wrong?

Okay I will give it a try.
Now my Dakota starts up cold just fine and idles nice for a little while, then when I drive it it looses power until it is all warmed up - after that it runs good.
It did seem to crank a little more to start, but that may be because of the cold in WI.
Anyone else have any ideas?
Any help is welcome.
Thanks.

Cap an rotor couldn't hurt however, You should also
get a fuel gauge on the schrader valve.
