Subject: Good Price for Gen II?
IP: Logged

Message:
My brother is looking for a decent V8 2wd
Dakota and found the following:

*‘95 Dakota Sport RC 2wd
*53,130 miles
*5.2 w/5-speed
*Air is the only option (not sure if it has limited
slip yet)
*One owner, red, super clean, with low-pro
topper
*$6,995 asking price

Is this a good deal?

What problem areas did the Gen II have?

I know it has the magnum engine, but what
about the 5-speed. (I know it’s not the
NV-3500 like in my new 4.7 QC)

Thoughts, experiences and opinions are
much appreciated.

Thanks, Lemmers

Lemmers

I just traded in a 1998 Plymouth Breeze for a 1995 4x4 Dakota Extended Cab SLT last year (June 2001).

- 71 500 km
- 5.2 L auto
- PW, PL, air
- tonneau cover
- total price : $15 000 CDN.

It is now close to 6 months since I've owned the truck, and I have not experienced any problems whatsoever. The only thing I know I have to fix is the intake manifold plenum pan gasket ($650 CDN to fix at the dealer, found a high performance shop that can do the job for $400).

So far, I am pleased about my decision to trade in the Breeze for the Dak. I'm sure that your brother will be happy with the truck if he decides to buy it.

I just bought mine:

96 SLT Club Cab
Magnum v-6, 3.9L
62K miles
auto, air, cruise ctl, tilt steering, rear sliding window, bedliner, PW, PL
bent rear bumper (minor and fixable)
driver side interior light switch not working
$200 for work to pass VA emissions inspection.
paint and body are execellent.

$8,000 I talked them down from $8700. prolly could've gotten it for less but this was in another state and coming back later was not an option.

I agree with above, yer bro will dig it.

I am the original owner of a 94 v8 2wd and there has only been one problem: the fuel gauge started moving back and fourth eraticly. From what I have seen here that is a common problem and is repairable by replacing the sending unit i think. May have already been fixed on the truck in question.

Not to offend the Gen 3 owners, but the Gen 2 trucks were known for being the most reliable of the bunch, not to mention a wee bit quicker cuz they were lighter.

I have a 95 Vee6 5spd with 123,000 on it and love it to death! Dealer wanted to give me 6Grand to trade. no thanx, mines payed for I said.

I have just replaced the clutch, and my gas gage has been shot for years! { common prob on Gen 2 } BTW, my 5spd tranny is a Jenko made by Mitsubishi, which is one of the reasons I bought the truck. I dont know if Mitsu still makes the 5spd, but its a GREAT tranny. Clutch went for 122,000miles. I dont know how reliable the v-8 5spd's are.

I bought my dak in August of 2000

1992 CC 3.9L Auto
LE Trim w/ Two tone paint
PW, PL, Cassette Player
Sliding rear window
77,000 miles
Bald tires though

It's been a great truck, it's had it's moments though, sporatic brake troubles, and a $1,000 front end rebuild(new rack unit, 4 new ball joints). But always there when I need it.

Yes it does have the NV3500 5 speed.

Mine has identical equipment (V8,air,5 speed + posi)
57,000 miles. Bought it new.

If mine was stock I would not sell it for that price.

I had a '95 four banger with AC paid $5500 for it in 1998, had a little under 30k miles when i got it. Had few problems, it had some dash issues speedo and oil gauge would some times bounce around erratically. Took the dash apart put it back together never had that problem again??? AC compressor siezed at 101,000 still ran great. Never changed anything except the fluids and the tires. Traded it in Dec. 2000 for my 2000 3.9L CC (Intense Blue). With 103,000 miles and a shot AC compressor i still got $3000 not bad i guess. Loved that truck, loved my 2000 CC, But love my 2000 RC 5-Speed best of all ! ! !

2000 3.9L RC Sport. Flame Red. 5-speed 3.55
Airaid Intake, Vortex Muffler, Flowmetrics 48mm TB, Autolite 3923s, IAT Adjuster
Clear Corners, SS Grill Insert, JBA Plug Wires, Underdrive Crank Pulley.
