 Subject: Verdict--Good or Bad Truck??

I am awaiting delivery of a Dakota, my first new 4-wheel vehicle in over 10 years. I am excited. However, this and the DML site concentrate owner experiences, good and bad. I am concerned about the following--
bad front rotors
bad front ball joints
bad 5-spd clutch
bad rear differential
Daimler-Chrysler merger damaging the badge's rep
Especially since 2 of the 4 are non-warranty items. So I'm hoping for an overall reader verdict--is this a good or bad truck, lemon or gem??

fricken awsome truck. Ball joints were a problem, but thats fixed. My clutch is fine.

CLutch problems are dependant of USER. However I
do know that starting in 2000 the 5 Spds used in all DAK's except 4holers use the HD NV3500
5Spd and they have bigger clutch assy. But it still boils down to LEFT FOOT placement. I had an
"89" Shadow with 5 spd and towing a 1200# camper
and my clutch lasted for 96000 miles.A lot depends on FOOT
Y2K DAK,CC,3.9L,5Spd, OS/2 keeps going & going & going

My opinion is something on the order of Dak2's,it has a lot to do with the nut behind the wheel...EVER car company has there problems.If a person beats the crap out of there rid ever day,they will have more problems than the average Joe.Balljounts are made by a vender,if you are good to your rotors they will be good to you,differential's put together by a vender.You are going to love your new truck.

Best truck I have ever owned(fastest too).Handles like a porche,rides like a caddy,flys like an eagle.20000 mi no problems.You are going to fall in love!Like Bob says take care of it and it will take care of you.

Great truck! Problems happen when you drive any vehicle hard and that happens when you have a fun vehicle. Be nice to your truck and it will be nice to you. Don't let the GM boys rag you watch there heads turn when you drive by.
