Yes, the 7 year 100K warranty has been extended to march. I just got the news since I'm a sales person at a chrysler dealership. Thats at least a $1200 warranty.

It's a great deal if you actually keep the vehicle 7 years or 100k miles. Doesn't really do much if you trade it in 3 or 4 years like I do. Why not just lower the price and keep it fair for everyone. Oh yea, that would cost Dodge money. The 7 years is a safe bet, because the vehicle is suppose to be designed to last 10 years/100k miles anyway.

Alright -- a bonifide sales person!! Thanks for surfing in. Let me ask ya -- how come such a crappy resale on the Durango? I was going to trade in 2001 for a new one, and they were going to give me a whopping $16,800 for my trade (5.9 SLT+, leather, skid plates everywhere -- loaded!)! This truck couldn't be babied anymore. Looks like I'll be driving it for 7-10 years! LOL! Please, enlighten us. - Jim

JimB, I'm sure you might have heard this, or maybe not. It is the market that makes the value what it is. Depending on your region that combination of options may not be desired. I agree that the 16,800 is a little low,I think they were just Under Apraising your truck. Also,
the deals that are on new vechiles are so good(rebates, warranty, low interest) that it makes the used car market fall. Why buy used when one can have thousands of dollars worth of incentives to buy new? Also why buy your durango for more than 16,800 when Dealers can go to an auction and buy one with less miles and the same options cheaper?? Not to offend you Jim, but that is what dealers ask themselves. I still think you can get more for it.

I have played the trade in game for years on end. I am now 40 yrs old and I know how to deal with sales personnel when buying new vehicles, I am just blunt and I tell them heads up this is what i want and what i will give for the new one, and it works for me. heck i even scam extras, like mud flaps, bug shields, drop in bed liners also. and the list goes on..... No offens to the sales people. just dont like to pussy foot around, i like to get in and get out. But i agree the Mrkt is soft now for used trades vehicles, try and sell yourself you can get more.

Just as an FYI for those who do not keep their vehicles for more than 2-3 years or 36K like me, the 7/100 warranty is good only for the original owner and is not bumper to bumper but drivetrain only. So if you trade or sell your vehicle outright the free extended drivetrain warranty is voided, no loss, since you didn't pay anything for it but not knowing this, you may over estimate the vehicles value in few years and be dissapointed when it comes time to sell and you can't transfer the warranty. As the salesman I spoke with stated, you can still buy the transferable extended warranty. DC made this warranty knowing that 50% of the Chrysler Owners trade or sell their vehicles every few years before original warranty ends and they wouldn't have to buck up for repairs on the free extended warranty under these circumstances for second owners. This Free warranty may work for some, but not for me:(

That would allow me to have a warranty for more than 9 months. I drive 45-50000 miles a year, but don't bother with the extended warranties as I have yet to pay for a major repair that would hve been covered.

Derrick -- Wasn't "under appraised." KBB.Com said the Durango, my mileage (45K at the time) and my zip code equalled $16,800. I knew that going in. Sure enough, that's what the dealer (Carquest) offered me for a trade. I left in disgust. Also -- I agree with you. Why buy used?? I never have. Always buy new. Always get them to throw in free mats, and other "stuff" in addition to the deal I make with them. But, you would expect DC to stand behind the product a little more than the crappy resale they leave you with. The production numbers of the Durango are staggering! I don't recall off the top of my head what they are, but I emailed Dodge about 6 months ago and asked for production numbers. They emailed me back with the figures and I almost gagged!! They're everywhere! Gazillions of em! Maybe that's why resale is so bad. Anyhow Derrick -- I would love to trade my 99 SY Dakota for one of those new 1500's - however I looked at one. 32K!! Rediculous!! It'll be worth 20K as soon as it's off the lot. Where do you live/work Derrick? If you're Washington Metro, maybe you can find me one hell of a deal, but I am not going to pay 32K for one of these things. Until the price comes down, the resale levels off -- I will drive this thing well into the next Millenium! - Jim

Concerning this 7yr 100K warranty.
This get'm in trick is basically the same deal they were doing back in September when I got mine. I was given $2000 cash back on my truck.
NOW, it's only like $500 PLUS you're getting this extended warranty,,,which comes out to be about$1500.

I was feeling abit scammed when this warranty came out,,but I got the details on it,,and was happier with $2k back right off the bat.
It's always about the same when it comes to promo values like that.

just my 4.7 cents

Gaww, fsk warrantys. The original is great, but do not buy an extended warranty, put that 1200 or what ever you spend into a CD and when you have repairs (maybe) down the road in 3-4 years+, use that. What a scam those things are..

oil loss, oil sludge, i have a 99 slt still under warranty and theyre not backing it. i have seen multiple postings on the web that this is a common problem. its been maintained religiously every 3 mos oil changes .. this is a 99 and i have only completed 22000 miles. the extended service company has denied my claim due to "improper maint" (ok, i have dates, times and all of all maint. completed since i got the truck, on time above and beyond.)so then they move to say that my changes look fishy cause they are done at multiple locations (hello, ever hear of MILITARY?) HOWEVER read your ext. service contract... (not covered is blah blah blah theft loss, blah, act of god, blah blah blah) apparently anything can fall under this section so thats what they tell me is wrong, the oil condensation that caused the sludge is a "act of god" or what not covered herin in the text of the agreement. hmm.. im getting a lawyer.. local dealer asked the FIRST EXTENDED SERVICE CORP to send a letter of DENIAL of claim.. they said its not in their policy to write up disapprovals... now does anyone see this as crazy? i cant even get my DISAPPROVAL in writing. lawyer appt coming up, any suggestions email me directly. anyone knowing about probs with the oil sludging or oil pump failing that could cause this, EMAIL ME. screen? whatever you got... just dont get your extended service contract thru them if possible. i just dont know why dodge or chrysler (even tho the local dealership and mechanics side with me...they cant do much without the money to fix it.) or anyone is backing the contract they sold me. so here i go off to the lawyers office next week. anyone knowing anything, give me a line..............thanks. otherwise im out quite a few bucks...i either take the bite for the cost of the engine and labor or i take the big loss of paying out the rest of payments. i lose no matter what. i just wish that maybe with all these offers for new extended warranties they could back the ones they already sold............

I PAID dearly for the 6/72,000 on mine. BUt I have 32,000 in just the first year on the truck. I just took it in for front right wheel bearing seal failure. The dealership I bought mine from treats me good. Courteous, prompt and no arguments as to whether something's covered or not.

Probably a good policy... They're expecting me to come back for another vehicle.

Customer service goes a long way. The Les Schwabb tire shops out here have excellent customer service. Free flat repair even if they did not sell you the tire. My next set of tires will come from there, I'll have them get my Good Years for me, rather than going to the Good Year shop. The Good Year shop did a wheel alignment on my daughter's car. Not only did the customer service s*ck but they also didn't tighten the bolts that clamp the strut to the lower suspension.

Please remember that the costs for the extended warranties are different no matter what dealer you go to. DC or for that matter any major manufacturer does not set a retail price for the dealer to sell it at, only what the dealers cost is. I bought the 5yr/100,000 extended warranty when I bought my truck in Nov. and they wanted to charge me at over 1500. I saw the price sheet they received from DC with their cost shown on it (they tried to black it out but it was easy to see right through the black marker). I wound up paying $800, which was $45 over the dealers cost.

Derrick dosn't get a $1,200.00 commission. I used to sell cars, I would go nuts if we made that much on a new car. The next time you screw with a salesman remember this...they only get 10 to 15% of whatever the custmer pays over invoice. So that so called $1,200 commission gets Derrick a whopping $120 before taxes. Now, this may seem alot but you guys don't realize what a salesman goes through. Theres quite a bit of paper work that needs to be done not to mention how much time they may spend with one customer just to make a sale. The dealers are the crooks, not the salesmen. The dealer sets the prices and the reason they do so much quick talk is because they are constantly being watched by the GM. All GM's are listening just about to every word that's being said and if you don't ask every question or do everything they think you should have then most of the time you get reamed for it.

Yeah the free 7/100 Warranty was a great bonus for getting a fast pickup. What's even better is that when I paid for my truck they snuck in an additional $1200 service charge for a bumper to bumper warranty. Thanks to the sly finance guys at Archer Dodge in Houston. Luckily for them, they removed it before I had to get a lawyer. Gotta love the car industry. Should have seen the look on peoples faces when I went in there with an oil filter that looked like it went thru Vietnam. 1.5 hrs to remove a factory installed filter. Ever had to hammer a 12" 3/8 extension thru a filter case? What a crock, must have put it in with a hydraulic torque wrench. Rediculous
