I parked my truck last night after it ran fine all that day and night, then i went to start it up this morning and it started up then about ten seconds later died. I tried restarting it but it took quite a few cranks but finally did start, but was running very rough and sputtering and I had to give it just the right amount of gas to keep it goin, then eventually died again. It will start now if i try for a while but then the same thing will continue to happen. I checked the plugs an distrib. cap, they both look fine. I have a new fuel filter and CAT as of 800 miles ago. It has about a quarter tank of gas left in it. It ran fine on this batch of gas the last couple days, do you think some water may have formed over the last few days? , it has been pretty cold, around 10-20F. Im gonna try some cold weather/water fuel treatment, but im really not sure what else to do. Any help or suggestions would be awesome, thanks as always,

-Jason

I had same type of thing. 96 4x4 3.9 and it turned out to be my fuel pump. What a MF to change out that was. What gave it away was a constant humming noise, so I checked the pressure on the injector rail and nada. Just hope its not the pump.

I ordered mine through Discount Auto Parts.com, but I am overseas(Military) and do not have many other options. Ive seen prices from $210 to $400 for the same namebrand pump on the web and DAP was the cheapest at $210.(fast delivery too) That is the in-tank pump. I don't know if the 88`s are the same. Be sure to check that fuel pressure, I wouldn't want you to buy a pump if you do not need one.
