Subject: Hissing noise coming from air intake!!!
IP: Logged

Message:
I just put on a K&N Gen II intake. Every 30 to 45 seconds I hear a loud hissing sound coming from it. Well I opened the hood and was trying to see where it was coming from and I noticed that when I hear the hissing sound one of my pulley's seems to stop spinning well at least the center of it stops. I'm not sure if the part that the belt lies on keeps spinning or not. I have very little knowledge of engines. It is the pulley on the top right part of the engine. Any one have any Idea what is causing this? I didn't hear it until I put on the K&N. Does this sound like something I should have looked at by a mechanic? Thanks for any help you can give me.

is your a/c or defroster on? The pulley that you are describing is for the compressor which cycles on and off.

Actually yes the defroster was on. Come to think of it when I turned it off the noice stopped. Any idea why it makes the noice with it on? Is it possible that I have an air leak?

No air leak. You are hearing the IAC motor in the throttle body. Every trime the A/C switches on there is more load on the engine making the IAC open more to compensate.

Ported throttle body, IAT adjuster, flowmaster cat back, adjusted TPS from .51v to .76v, 4" cold air intake

Well that too, but also you are hearing the freon rushing though the lines when the compessor is on and then when it shuts off the freon escapes out of the evaporator and makes the hissing sound though the lines. Nothing to worry about, sounds perfactly normal to me.

Thanks for the replys guys. I wasn't sure what it was. Didn't hear it until I put the Gen II on. I guess where it is an open air filter I can hear it more.
