Re: Joe C 45RFE means- (4) speed,(5) torque rating, (R)rear wheel drive, and (FE) fully electronic. Where the 42RE is 4 speed 2 torque rating (R)rear wheel drive (E)electornic govenor and so on for the 46re, and 47re. So with that in mind the 45RFE is not quit as strong as the 46RE, but is only better by design! By the way if you put a 45RFE in park when your moving it will definatly make noise, the park pawl is mechanical and you can not stop it from engaging. Where as if you put it in reverse while moving the TCM will disallow the shift until 6mph or less!

Seems like there is alot of people that don't know anything about the 45rfe/545rfe! If you have a question ask, and people that know the answer should answer, not some idiot that thinks he knows!!!

Any resident tranny experts here answer me this question about my 46re (98 with 92k of which I have done 8k)

I don't know the full history as I bought it second hand.

I have had 2 services on my tranny (ATF+3), it's always had a rough upshift 1-2 and 2-3 (3-4 is fine) but mostly 2-3 on light throttle or no throttle close to the shift point (it up shifts and clangs as if its taking up the drive train slack but could be internal to the tranny). Hard accel doesn't seem to bad still abit rough but no clang.
The clutches haven't broken down and it always shifts to the right gear but is very rough.

I put slick 50 high mileage tranny adative which I know is a big no no but it was slipping in top gear on the freeway when the Torque conv should be locked solid, the slick 50 has sorted that problem and it no longer slips.

My questions are,

could the solenoid packs be playing up giving me a rough shift on light throttle ?
What do the solenoid packs actually control ?

has my tranny overheated and cooked the seals ? has the slick 50 conditioned the seals and is this why it's no longer slipping ?

when the vehicle is cold it seems to shift softer until it starts to warm up, when cold it seems to feel like a 2 stage shift but when hot if feels like 1

I don't want to waste any more money on it and the 5* dealers here are criminals and have said they wont fit a tranny unless they supply it, a chrysler recon unit is $1300 (no tax) against the dealers $2100 +tax even though it's the same 3yr/36mile unit from the same suplier.

Thanks in advance
Jonathan
