Subject: Removing the #$!@ Fan shroud!!

I have a 99 dakota wit a 3.9 auto. Does anyone have an easier way of removing the fan clutch? Mine is shot already. I figured you had to get the fan shroud out of the way so all of this morning and part of this afternoon later, i had the radiator out, battery and finally the shroud. Getting the tranny cooler lines off was almost impossible with the shroud sitting there. Help!! I don't want to have to take it to the shop for them to put back together. I don't have the time or patience to deal with this pig. I ended up throwing the radiator back in without the shroud for now since the new clutch is not in yet, so its drivable but i don't want to go thru putting it in again. Thanks, SloDak39

It is possible running in city traffic without the shroud installed will cause overheating. Maybe not this time of year, though.

Check out www.intense99dak.com/hayden.htm

It's the install page for my Hayden fan (with write up by Bernd) and we go in depth about taking the fan shroud and clutch fan off. If you have any questions, you can send me an email.

My clutch fan went dead at 4000 miles on my 2001 Quad 5.9.I was going away and didn't have time to go to the dealer so I put a new clutch in myself. You can make your own spanner wrench with two pieces of flat steel and bolt them togehter like a scissor and put two nuts and bolts at the ends and leave the bolts stick out like little tits. You then can adjust the tool to fit into the water pump pully holes and hold back while you loosen the 34mm nut.
