I know this is an old post, but did anyone find a fix for the general noise problem. My truck only makes the noise holding or accerating right around 1500-1600rpm. I thought it may be the alternator at first, but that checked out ok. I am sure it can't be a brake problem, but I am getting new rotors and pads put on soon because of the junk stock ones are going bad at under 19,000 miles. Anyone that has had the noise I decsribed, and has fixed it please let me know what is was, or what you did to make it go away.

Thanks,

Andrew

after reading all the old posts about this problem I wonder why it is so hard to find? went thru this twice- each time it was the fanclutch/hub combination -- replace yours-- the silicon in the fan clutch/hub on the dodge is too stiff on a cold morning and it goes bad after a while--

Just fixed my chirping noise on my 2001 Dakota Quad cab with 4.7 ltr motor. After days of searching the Web about the problem, I came across a Dodge Technician who said it was the Water pump. He said he replaces a couple a week on this motor. Sure enough the water pump was bad. Sounded like the belt or alternator but it was not. The water pump bearing was shot and caused the squealing and intermittent chirping at idle.

This is a great message area. I had the constant squeaking too as a belt wore, but it went away after about a month.

My new chirping only happens when I'm moving, and seems to be on the passenger side. At about 10 mph I get 4 chirps a second, increasing as I speed up to 20. There's too much road noise above that to tell much. I do get some vibration when breaking from normal road speeds, but at only 24k of in-town driving I doubt I have a warped shoe.

I've got service scheduled tomorrow, I'll have them check the CV, U, double-cross joint, wheel bearings, breaks, front axle dust seals, and brake pad sensor. I'll post back here if any of this works.
