 Subject: biggest tires on a 4x2 w/ no lift

i have a 99 4x2 and want my truck to stand as high as a 4x4, it's embarassing when i park my truck next to my uncle's 4x4 QC and people make "papa truck next to baby truck" remarks! i'm not really interested in a lift kit if i can avoid it, will a set of 31x10.50 tires on my 15x7 rims give me the height i'm looking for without looking cheesy? anyone with a stock height 4x2 with this size tires and pics of your truck, i'd love to see them.

Hank, I had squeezed 30" BFG's on my '97 before the body (or suspension) lift. This was with the factory 15"x8" rims.

Bernd, what kind of lift did this give your truck, did it stand as tall as a stock 4x4? how did it look, was the wheel well to "full" or was it ok?

hank i got a 1998 ext. cab 2wd with the 3.9L. it's got a 3" body lift and i'm running 31/10.50R15 Super Swamper SSR's which were really about 32" tall. and now with hardly any tread left i'm still sitting about 1/2" to 1" taller than a stock 4x4. the wheel well is just fine, i mean hell i jump my truck to where all the wheels are completely off the ground and everything is still good(so far).

Hank, the 30" tires filled up the wheel well pretty nicely. If you want it to look like a 4x4 at standard height, 2" Body lift + 31" tires.

You should get 15x8 rims or even the 16x8 rims that they have now. that will help with the height issue.31x10.5s are too big for 7" rims according to the guys @ my local goodyear store.

what are the largest tires i can fit without cutting fenders or rubbing i want to keep the factory 16x8 wheels

I had 31x10.5 15s on mine before the body lift with no rubbing, but they filled the fenderwell completely. It looks right with the body lift.

I once put tires that were about 1 inch more in diamater on my 99 4x2 V-6 and it turned it into more of a DOG than it already was. I have the 3.55 gears on it and it made it seem like it had 2.90s or something.

I've spent the last 2 weeks deciding whether to buy 4 dodge durango 15 inch rims with 4 tires (2 mickey thompson bajas and two cooper discoverers) all of them 275/75/15s. Today I went and got them. The tires I took OFF my 1999 Dodge Dakota 2wd V6 were 215/75/15. So just to clear up the confusion of what's the biggest tires/wheels you can fit on a stock, no-lift, v6, 2wd Dodge Dakota are 275/75/15. I have about 1 inch clearance between the tire and wheel well when turned to the max. So far no rub anywhere, anytime. Though I'd be careful around railroad tracks and huge holes since you don't have as much clearance above the wheel now. Thanks for all your help guys!!!! Email dmg2003@gmail.com with any questions.

First, I would take measurements with the stock tires. Turning the wheels lock to lock checking clearance on both. Then use this calculator:
www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp?err=98&rsn=usr-snt-emty-str
to compare different size tires. I've seen that year truck with 255/65/16's from the factory.
