Ok, here I am again with my freak'n tranny acting up.
1997 CC, 5.2, auto, tow pkg.
Today the better half was driving and it was not wanting to shift out of 1st. (Yes, it was in 'D'). Second was also a challenge. Finally, at a stop light the truck died. It started just fine, but died quickly once in gear. After it cooled down for 30mins, it ran somewhat fine the last 3 miles home. I was thinking it might be the converter not unlocking......... any ideas?

Boomer, my 98 5.2 auto was sticking in second. It had 60k miles and I am sure it was never serviced. Once I had it completely flushed and a new filter by the dealer, this cleared up for me. Yes, I think your stalling is due to the lockout failure that you describe.
