Well, I spoke with the rep at SEMA on the Iridium plugs and decided to purchase a set ($8.50/plug approximately).

I'm using the recommended IQ16's in my Dak and, quite honestly, they don't perform any better than the Autolite 3923's (or 3922's) I normally run.

We'll check out the long-term fuel economy as well...but the initial results aren't too promising.

Hey Bernd, FYI - I put a set of NGK FZR6-11s in my Dak. Seems to have helped. Got my best time ever with them but weather conditions were favorable. May not be any better than any others but they are at least as good it seems.

I just installed a set of Splitfire Plugs @ $3.99 each(Auto Zone) in my 01 4.7 with factory gap setting and have to admit the truck idles smoother with a little better throttle response than stock plugs. Have not checked the gas mileage difference yet as I just put them in yesterday but I have always been a stickler for using my trip odometer and checking the mpg. I will post the results if positive and save everyone else the $32.00 if there is little gain over the Autolites.

I also have the splitfires installed in mine, about 6-7 months now. I ahve not regretted putting them in. I think they have also improved the quality of the engine. I ahve a smooth idle and i think its a little quicker when you punch the throttle. My gas mileage around town(my town is all hills) is about 15 - 16 mpg, and the best for highway(about a 700 mile round trip) was almost 20 mpg!!!! the only mods i have is a gibsone split rear cat-back, K&N replacement filter and i have taken the air hat off and repalced with PVC and 90 degree elbow. i usually use 89 octane gas too, but i recently tried a couple tanks of 87, i get some knocking on hard throttles and up hills doing 3k on the tach so i will probably go back to 89, but teh gas mileage never changed!!! Oh and this is all on the 4.7 L engine, and its a 2000 dak 4x4!! hope this helps!!

I have them in mine to, but I also have the Kenne Bell S/C, so I am in a different ball game. Have them gapped at .035 and have noticed quite a diff. over autolites.

We've put about 100 miles on the plugs and they do seem to work better on the highway under light acceleration. Please keep in mind that we are testing them on a Supercharged/Nitroused/Intercooled V6 and the performance increases from the plugs may not be as noticeable as on a normally aspirated engine. Our personal opinion, not a bad plug at all but don't see spending over $8.00 per plug. We're still keeping an eye on the fuel economy so there will be one or two more updates on that parts of the test.

Thanks for the info on the plugs!!

I want to try them out, as some of the information that I have read, states that they work best in an engine with Hemisperical combustion chambers. Hmmm, that sounded interesting to me.

I'm sure I'll be able to talke the Mrs into it shortly, but until then, keep us informed.

Thanks,
Blue
