Looking at getting a cap in the near future, main thing is that it's gotta lock.. anybody have any preferences or problems with a particular cap? Looking at all the brands right now...

I have the ARE brand (only brand available at the 2 Vermont cap dealers) I like the ARE because there is only ONE handle on the rear door.
If I were to be ordering the cap all over again... I would consider spending the extra hundred dollars for the "opening side window" option. This would save having to climb in the back of the thing every time I want to put a load of groceries in it.
I DO NOT have one of those stupid plastic bathtubs they call bedliners. They allow your cargo to slide all over the place (and wear the paint off of the bed too). I opted for a heavy rubber "bedmat" that protects the bed AND keeps any cargo from sliding around.

I must agree with Bruce P, I also have an ARE model and I'm very satisfied. Leer's are popular but cheaply made. I did LOT's of research and the two top brands seem to be SnugTop and ARE for overall quality. Fit,finish and features. ARE also offered discount coupons over the internet for what it's worth. I got a free sliding window AND $100 off total price back in April...

I really like my Snugtop. Fits beautifully, well made. Liftgate locks and it only has one latch; don't need to unlock two latches to open it. Don't know what you plan to use your shell for but mine is pretty comfy. I've got a Bedrug and the shell has the optional headliner. I've slept back there dozens of times.

Well for the $, I really like my matching paint Leer shell cap!
YOu know, the taigate on the Dakotas -my 01 that is, bows out some on the outside at the top, inside is flat. LIke when you're looking down from the top with the gate up.
The rear window on my leer has a latch on each side, allowing it to bow some to match the contour of the outside of the gate.
I guess if the one handle actuates latches on each side of the window frame, it would work as well.
Of course, I have the front slider to match up to the rear slider on my QC. I also have a clear plastic, blow up style 'ring' that goes around the window opening to seal the weather out and a/c, or heating in when I have people riding in the back.
