Read the manual and it says to stop the truck and put it in neutral when you are going to shift from 2wd - 4hi/4lo and vice versa. What do you guys recommend? I dont want to test it on my new truck... might break something hehe And the Dodge dealer salesperson said "well I dont know, I have a Toyota..."

What year is your truck?? AS far as I know going into 4hi you can do it on the fly up to 50-55 mph into it or out of it. 4lo you might have to go into netural.

P.S. Your salesman is an Idiot. He works there and has no clue.

You can shift from 2wd to 4hi AT ANY SPEED... as long as you are not spinning your rear tires (i.e., as long as the front and rear tires are going the same speed). The opposite of this is also true. This applies to any 4wd setup where the front driveline is always turning (most modern 4wds). If you have a 4wd where you can lock/unlock the front hubs, you can shift into 4hi at any speed only if the hubs are already locked.

To shift into 4lo, you need to put your tranny in neutral and the truck should be at a stand still (or very close to it).

When I test drove a 2001, I switched at like 50MPH on a gravel road...damn did I feel it grip real quick. It was very nice, but I decided on a 2WD in the end.
