Subject: Versacap tonneau experience?

Message:
I am looking for a hard tonneau for my new QC and noticed the Versacap. www.versacap.com

Looks like it does a bit more than most covers - it converts to a ladder/lumber rack, which looks useful.

Does anyone have one of these on their truck?? Is it waterproof? , does the rack feature work well, and what kind of price did you pay??

Thanks for any help!

It's hard to believe that no one on this board has one of these things. Guess that doesn't speak too highly for them....

Anyone seen one of these??????

Thanks

Rjay - Where did you learn of this tonneau? I myself am looking for a hard cover and was looking at the Aerocover. The Aerocover can be seen at internationalliner.com I would like to get some information regarding the versacap.

Thanks,

Blue

BlueBayou -

You can see this tonneau at www.versacap.com and also at calconcepts.com.

The conversion to a rack for carrying ladders etc. looks interesting.

Anyone know if Versacap has a Dakota application?
What about price? I wonder what the weight is if it's made up of powder-coated steel...

The Versacap people got back to me. It doesn't
look like there's an application for a QC,
and possibly not even a CC or RC. When they asked
about "4 regular doors" vs. "suicide doors", I
had a feeling that they didn't. I am checking
into that some more. Meanwhile, it's about $950
and that includes shipping from Canada. It
weighs around 200 lbs and takes 2 people, 6 hrs
to install.

These guys at Versacap appear to be clueless.
The latest response to my followup was:
-----
The VersaCap for the Dakota comes in 2 sizes:
80 inches and 98 1/4 inches.
-----
Allowing for some overhang, these are 6'6"
and 8' beds. These seem to be for the RAM
and not the Dakota. Is that right?

I checked with Sport Truck Solutions in Southern California. They told me that this cover was not available for the QC Dakota. They also said that the Aerocover is not available. I asked him why there was a picture of a QC with the cover and he said that they were supposed to make one and even had a part number listed for it, but never made it available. I put in a message to Versacap to find out more about the availability. I have been looking for something like this for a while. If it's not available, I think I am going to go to the drawing board and try to make something similar myself. I think the price listed on Sport truck solutions was $825. Good luck. Does anyone know of any comparible products?

Greetings all members of the Dakota Club. I have just found your Website and I would like to clarify some of your statements. My comments maybe irrelevant because your postings are old.
I am the Owner/Operator of the www.versacap.com
Website. These fantastic truck caps were made by www.snowbear.com located in Guelph Ontario about 1 hour west of Toronto. They are the makers of the Snowbear Trailers and personal snow ploughs. Walmart, Costco and lots of others sell them in Canada, the USA, Europe and Asia. The manufacturing of the VersaCap was dropped in 04 because they were not as profitable as their other products. They did not advertise enough. Everybody that bought one thought it was the greatest Cap ever made. I still operate my Website because I still have a few VersaCaps in stock. They are all for compact models ( Ranger, S-10, Tacoma & Nissan )long & short beds. I also get customers looking for parts.PS: koz, the lenght of the Ram & Dakota beds are the same on the regular cabs, but the width is different. NO overhang! All info is on the Website along with Video. Also has installation manual.

To JayP,

I have a Snowbear cap, and it is the greatest. I hope you'll keep on selling them, because nothing else comes close in utility and convenience.

Hi elg, I can only sell whats left in stock. If you
review my last posting, you'll noticed that they
have stopped manufacturing these greatest caps.

Wish somebody would produce something as great as
this one. Thanks. JayP
