 Subject: 99 problem...maybe tranny

My Check engine light came on Wednesday when I started the truck and hasn't gone off (not that I expected it to on its own, but, you know). It is a 99 5.9L automatic.
The only difference I can tell is that it seems to hold itself in each gear longer and shifts a little harder. (Strangely I like it better this way but I'm afraid it might be doing some damage.)
Any ideas what this might be? It is under warranty but I'd like to know what to expect and I can't get it in until next week sometime so the more info the better.
