i have a 97' dakota 4x4 with a 318 it has 75,000? miles on it the prob started last year in the winter you cant start it unless you give it gass enough to stay above 1000 rpm. then warmer weather came it slowly stoped. but its doing the same thing again. anyone had this prob and know what it is? i took it to the dealer but they dont know what it is so its up to me now i would like to go wheeling in snow this winter. oh and i ran the codes nothing there...

clean your throttle body and idle air control motor..... got to www.speedtweaks.net for the step by step..... it's in the tips and tricks section..... your truck will run a lot better and will be better off the line once throttle body is cleaned.

thanks jay i will try that the truck has not been verry well maintaned. but i posted this on the recll board and someone said she had the same prob and it was the battery. so... i took the battery from my jeep put it in (once the grage warmed up a little) tried to start it dident start so i gave it some gas and it ran with out giving it any so i thought it may be the battery. then i tried it again with the door up (cold garage) same thing. so i put the old battery back in and let the garage warm up it started with a little gas again then ran on its own. so now im thinking its cold related. i seen on the net about coil probs on dakotas so i let it get cold again but i put a hair dryer on the coil. started with a little gas ran on its own. and i found something else wrong with the truck the spark plugs are gaped at .055 not .040 . i dont know if this will do anything or not but they need replaced anyways.

plug gap was probably worn to 55, however , a wider gap gives better fuel economy but i wouldn't go over 50 on your's. If you put a new coil on, go to a high grade replacement. Definite improvements. Chrysler has a history of weak ignitions, luck
