Message: My 1989 Dakota with 3.9 V-6 AT shifts perfectly and smoothly through all gears. However, when shifting from Park to Drive or Park to Reverse or from Neutral to Park or Reverse the transmission engages so hard it sounds and feels like it is going to jar your teeth out. Once you get going it shifts so smooth you can't feel it.
Any ideas?
