Hey all,

I’m new here, so a quick intro. I have 2 Dakotas, a 4-cylinder ’89 (don’t laugh, I just use it to haul the dogs around) and a 95 V6. I like this site because there seems to be plenty of info on older Dakotas. (A lot of sites seem to think Dakotas were invented in ’97).

I recently got rid of my car in order to simplify my life (like, spend less money), so I’m driving the 95 every day now, which has really pointed out some of its shortcomings, such as the gas tank. Has anyone ever traded up from the 15 gallon to the 22? Would I need a new fuel gauge and/or sender?

Also, does anyone know why the tranny occasionally jumps out of O/D and engages the O/D Off switch (usually when hauling a heavy load)? My buddy's Ram does the same thing. Is this a glitch or something the tranny is designed to do?

It is designed to drop to a lower gear when you are pulling a heavy load or sometimes even going up a hill. Does the switch actually disengage to where you have to re-engage it?

Right, the O/D Off switch lights up as if I shut it off myself, only I didn't. And the only way to engage O/D again is to hit the switch.

Hehehehehe....hey now, those "Sites" know that the Dakota's started in '88. ;)

Gen-I = '88 - '91
Gen-II = '92 - '96 (Magnum Engines were introduced)
Gen-III = '97 - current models

(I'm on the DML, R/T, Mopar Chat, and this board.)
