I have a 2002 dodge Dakota SXT v6 3.9L with 203K. I purchased it used without much knowledge of past maintenance. I changed plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Truck ran fine besides minor exhaust leak near manifold on passenger side. Went to start truck in the morning, it would only crank and NO BUS appeared in odometer window. Disconnected battery terminals, later that day it started ran normal. check engine light is on when key is turned to on position flashes 10 times, when I start the truck it disappears. It does not have any codes I used OBD ll reader and I tried odometer trick where you hold odometer reset button with truck in off position then turn key to on, it displays CHEC but no codes. Any ideas?

The hold the reset button and turn the key on test is for the instrument cluster. After you see CHEC it should test all the lights and then sweep the gauges. It would give "cluster" codes, not P codes.

To check for P codes, with the truck NOT running, turn the key to ON (don't start it), then OFF, back to ON, then OFF again, then LEAVE it in ON. Codes will display in the odometer window. It will show PDONE when finished.

Do you mean PDONE appeared right away?

Check the harness at the PCM, make sure the connectors are clean and tight.

yes sorry, PDONE appeared right away. what should I use to clean connectors? just as a side, note a few days prior to all of this a friend of mine sprayed my battery terminals with a rust inhibitor, for whatever reason. You think that might have caused this problem?

Electrical contact cleaner is best. You can get it
at a parts store.

You might want to clean the battery posts. If you
want to put some corrosion inhibitor on it after you
clean it, that's OK. I wouldn't put it on without
cleaning first.
