I've read several posts about 4.7 auto's stalling, but thought I'd mention I've had my 5 speed stall twice on me in the past month.

It stalls when I'm coasting to a stop at a light or stop sign when the clutch is engaged. Engine will stop. This means the power steering and brakes don't work either which is a potentially dangerous condition.

I'm planning a trip back to my not so wonderful dealer, but I'm sure I'll be told they can't duplicate the problem, but I'll have it documented so I can get the big bucks when I run into something --Will

My 2001 has a problem under the same circumstances. The engine surges and when it comes back down, it gets to about 300 rpm although it has never stalled, it gets right back up to 750 or 500 and stays there...

Try cleaning your throttle body and IAC motor. That is what makes most of these engines stall on decel.

The best way to get the dealer to help you is to speak to your representative.

THE SALES PERSON THAT SOLD YOU THE CAR.

Go to him and tell him whats happining. He will march in the back and give them all crap. Unless hes a bigger assho@@ then the dealers them self.

But normally they feel guilty and will help.

There is a "flash" available for the PCM that addresses the stalling problem. Any dealer should be able to hook your truck up to his computer and download the new program into it. Then they place a sticker on your PCM with a new "partnumber" that indicates which version of software has been loaded into it.

PCM = PowertrainControlModule (aka engine computer)

I've heard them flashing the PCM in the auto's to cure the problem. It just makes the idle about 100 RPM higher. I rather they find the real problem.

What is the IAC motor? --Will

That is the real problem. Idle is set to low for some sort of emitions crap. So they raised it and the next year through an other cat on the truck and kept the idle high.
