Subject: 2000 dakota ball joint check??

Ok guys, i was wondering if any of you guys have a
service manual that says what is the proper way of
checking the ball joints on these trucks??? Or if
anyone can tell me the proper way to check them??
I have a 2000 4x4 with 25.5k miles. I have told
teh dealership many times since 20k that there is
a problem with teh ball joint but they tell me its
ok. I totally disagree from what i experience with
it. I mean do all truck have a loud clucking sound
when you hit a small insignificant bump?? also if
you jack up one side of the truck and check the
upper joint you havd about 1/8" of movment on the
wheel or more??? that does not sound right to
me?!?!? they tell me i need to jack up the truck
evenly on both side to "fully unload the joints".
To me that sounds like bull since if that is the
case wouldn't it sitting on the ground mean that
they are unloaded too??? with teh exception of the
wheel being on the ground. I just dont' see it???
can anyone help??? I am almost ready togo and
buy new ball joints and put them on myself!!! One
last thing ?? does eveyone have a problem with
front disk squeel??? i cut the rotors and put on
new brake pads from advance auto and now they
squeel so dam bad?? anyone with a cure??? thanks.

I have the same exact problems you are having. I can feel the vibration of the noise under my feet and sometimes through the steering. I got that squeeking noise too. It's not too loud but very annoying. I also had my ball joints checked and was told nothing was wrong. Need help

well guys i called and got an appointment for wed.
But this time i have proof!!! i took the wheel
off the drivers side to check my brakes b/c of my
squeeling problem. Well behold i looked at the
boot for the upper ball joint and guess what??? a
large hole!!!! the boot actually wore thru!!! well
if you llok inside guess what you find?? NO
GREASE!!! and metal shavings!!!! yeah!!! so i
decided to look at the other side but no hole but
you can lift up the botom of the boot and look
inside a little and guess what?? NO GREASE!!! plus
the looks of more metal shavings and what looks
like chewed up metal!!! so they better do
somethign this time or else i will take the
dealership to the better buisness bereau!!!! this
is a load of crap!!! and i told them i want the
lowers changed too b/c if the uppers are gone what
about the lowers??? oh well enough of me
ranting!!!! hope you guys have some luck too!!!
