My new Quad Cab just did something weird today! Maybe you guys can help me out here...

My truck is just sitting in the driveway while I was in the house, when all of a sudden the horn starts beeping as if the alarm is going off!!

First off, I don't have the alarm option but, I do have keyless remote.

Second, when I go outside to press "unlock" on the remote... nothing happens, the horn is still beeping w/lights flashing.

Then I tried to start the truck, thinking if I DID have the alarm (by mistake) that maybe it will reset/turn off the alarm or horn...

NOPE!! Just kept going off til I finally pulled the two plugs from the horns! (Taking battery cable off would have taken longer at the time). After I did that the lights were still flashing for a couple minutes then STOPPED! Everything SEEMS to be fine (truck starts/runs fine)... but why or what is going on?? Anyone heard of this!? Or maybe they built my truck over a graveyard at the plant!! Any ideas??

Thanks!

It's new and it wanted some attention and you were in the house ignoring it.You need to train it better. I know it takes time to train it but if you don't it will take advantage of you.It will make you stay in it most of the time
and then you'll become so attached to it you'll
go into depression when you DO get out of it.

BY the way that does sound weird. Does it have the key (ignition)security. The special key that is coded for that vehicle.
Any way congrats on new truck and enjoy. DON'T forget the training

lol... this DOES suck. I'm going through the manual to see if anything is said about it.

It shouldn't be a fuse, guess I'll find out what it is eventually... I've run out of ideas too! I'm totally stumpt!

DAK2 - No, it doesn't have anything alarm wise (sentry key). Just stock, or should be...

Do you have a panic button on your keyless entry remote? I know my 2 year old daughter thinks it's realllllly cool to press that button and make my truck go berzerk. Any young'uns running around the house that might have had access to your remote? ;o)

It sounds like the panic button. I have the same setup and I hit the thingy on the fob by accident, while the keys were in my pocket (don't ask).
Anyway, if you press the panic button (0range) on the fob it should stop. If not, it's likely a wiring/fuse/short problem.

I just love the panic button on the remote. One of my favorite things to do to my poor loving wife is to hit the panic button as she's backing out of the driveway. PANIC!!!! is an understatement! LOL It didn't take her long to figure it out, but the kids thought it was hilarious!.... me too!

when this happens, try simply putting the key in the door and manually locking/unlocking the door. This will usually make it stop. If you disconnect the battery, sometimes it will do this too...(mine does).

im sorry it's happening to you to. i had a a 2000 ram and it did the same for about 2 weeks, til i total it. on an avg. it would go for around 5 min. and quit. what makes mine even weirder is that mine was the work model (no keyless entry). maybe it was built at the same "gaveyard plant" as yours?!

Thanks for the help guys. I know it wasn't the panic button (both keys were on the table with nobody else in the house but me). Plus I used ALL the buttons to try an stop it but no luck.

I did disconnect the battery today (just put on my 3" body lift) so maybe it will reset or something. Kinda freaky though. Hope it doesn't do it again since its REALLY loud for the neighbors and takes a while to unplug the horns.

Also, get ready for some pics of my new lift. There is also a suspension lift coming soon but at least you'll get an idea! Hopefully I'll have the pics online by Sunday night (if the horn doesn't wig out!!!

Could've been something else with a similar enough signal to set it off. Most likely you accidently hit the button.

I did have a coworker with an oscilliscope that could playback a signal, one day he put a stub antenna on it, recorded his neighbor's garage door opener, then played it back and watched his neighbor wonder why his garage door just opened.

Very likely a frequency interference problem or another remote of some sort working on the same frequency. Had a similar problem with my Bose home theater...kept turning on all by itself. Turned out that a neighbor had a Bose and both of ours were set to the same frequency. Scared the cr*p out of me whenever it happened!

Thats pretty funny Dan! I heard a Bose demo once (AWESOME sound) and the salesman told me that other neighbors can control YOUR setup if on the same frequency. Never thought it could REALLY happen! LOL... That would freak me out too!

Well... so far the horn hasn't gone off (yet). We shall see as time goes by if it will do it again. I also finished my body lift this weekend... PITA! Don't get me wrong, the actual lift was easy, it was the shifter (5spd) and the steering extension that took ALL day to fix. I had to heat up the shifter link (from tranny into the cab - right at the floor board) with a cutting torch and basically bend it from an S to an I. This wouldn't happen on autos.

Then the steering extender hit the engine mount support so I had to grind that down (still needs a little more - rubs on the bolt head). I did finish all this but I'm worried about the front radiator hose (lower). Is this suppose to be this close to fan! I mean one more millimeter and that hose is chopped up! Other than that, the truck looks MUCH better now. :-)
