I have a 93 dakkota with the 3.9 engine, and am haveing trouble with ignition timeing. Is the dist. drive slot in the engine block moveable with out a tear down? This Truck has had a problem with timeing as long as I have owned it. No power and lifter noise are driveing me nuts. Tthis is my first late model Dodge.

I'm not sure if the 93 is the same as the newer or not, but you might want to go to speedtweaks.net and check out the tips & tricks section. It has a thing in there about engine timing. If it's not there, it's somewhere on the website, and I hope it is what you are looking for. (If I remember right about the website)

Been there done that. Thats why I am trying to get the info. While indexing the dist. the dist body is against the manifold can't get the cap on, or turn any further to get the timeing right. The newer Magnum 3.9 is probable real close to the same. These after market manuals arn't worth a damm- informatiom is incomplete.
Thanks Larry

Hey Larry,
With the older small blocks, the distributor drive slot has to line up with the the #1 intake bolt when #1 cylinder at TDC. If not, pull it out and line it up.
THAT should be in that useless damn Haynes manual you got.
I still haven't found one for my '98 Dak.

I still have a Popular Mechanics CD for my '94, interested?
