Subject: Interior light power ??

Hi all.

I've been putting in some LED lights in my 2000 dak, easy enough. figured I would take the power from the dome light. thought it would be 12+ at the lamp.

Turns out, it's 12+ at the lamp when the lamp is off?? drops to 0 when the lamp is on. So, the best I can find for power at the dome light itself will only light the LED's when it's turned OFF.. and the LED's turn off when the dome is on. (did that make any sense?)

So, question is. Where do I find a 12+ power source that is active when the interior lights are on, if I can't get one from the interior lights themselves?

If you're measuring across the bulb, you will have a 12V differential when it's off and almost none when it's on. That's how it works. One wire is always hot. Just measure from each wire to ground (the roof or another metal body part, instead of across the bulb. One of the wires will have 12V with light off. The other wire switches to ground to activate the light. Perhaps you're powering your LEDs off this and inverting their function.

Also, make sure the LEDs have resistors built in. Most do.

Ahh yes, thank you. Needed to wire the LEDs to a fused 12+ on one side, and the hot wire on the lamp for the other. Works like a charm.

I wired the LEDs with the resistors and installed them last night.. they look great!

Thanks for the help.. this board rocks!
