Subject: Rebuilt tranny wont shift to 3rd
IP: Logged

Message:
I had the transmission in my 94 V6 dakota rebuilt and finally put the tranny in a month ago. Drove it around town a bit and never noticed a problem til I took it on the highway last night. It shifts fine 1st and 2nd but wont hit 3rd or anything higher. When I got it home it had a nasty almost burnt clutch smell. Any ideas? We replaced the check valve but have yet to take the check ball out of the line at th cooler, could this be the problem?

if the cable doesnt work i would try to find who rebuilt the tranny if you go to a hanes manual for your year truck it will tell you exactly how to adjust other wise the tranny should be looked at unfortunately

Checked the fluid and found that it was low, lik 3 liters low so I'm thinking that could be it. Fortunately I've barely driven the truck since I put the tranny in so I don't think it's damaged anything. Only problem is after letting it sit and idle while I topped up the tranny I discovered that when it gets hot it stalls when you put it in gear. So I couldn't drive it to see if it's shifting properly.

Yea it does have overdrive. I was thinking the lockup solenoid might be bad so I'm going to try putting a new one in, if that doesn't help then the truck is goin to the wreckers. It's not worth putting any more money into it. It's got 300'000kms on it. Thanks for the help though :)
