Subject: Grinding Noise when towing....
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 2002 Dodge Dakota 2WD 4.7 V8. When towing my 3100 lbs. pop up camper and have firewood in the bed I hear a horrible grinding noise when I accelerate and sounds like metal to metal grinding. When I take out the firewood I no longer hear the grinding noise. My Dakota is rated to tow around 5000 lbs to 5500 lbs. Could this be something with the U-Joints? This noise only occurs when I'm towing. I have a supersprings kit on the rear to help out with rear end sagging.

You know what Rob, i get the exact same thing on my 94, when i step on the gas from a stop if i punch it too hard and only when i'm towing my trailer it will make a grinding metal on metal sound, but my u-joints are fairly new so its not that...my rear end gears are new so its not that, but to tell you the truth i havent been able to track it down so i assumed it to be either in the tranny or tranfer case, and since it wont do it unless i romp it while towing i just didnt worry about it. Let me know if you find out what it is on your truck.

But yet it only does it when you tow? you probably drive yours alot more than i do so for you the noise might start getting worse and more often, and if it does that even when you baby it i'd check the u-joints first and go from there, let me know if you find the problem.

Hey there Troll Boy, my favorite career welfare recipient. I was right, so you reply back with "f***ing loser". Is that the only derisive term you know or is that because you still believe Barney says you're special and thus everyone around you is nothing and thus an "f-in loser.
