Subject: truck jumps at start

Message:
I was wondering if anyone could help diagnosis an issue. I
have a 97 Dakota 5.2 standard and when I start it while the
transmission is.ingaged, clutch in, it jumps. It doesn't matter
what gear. When tranny isn't in gear it doesn't jump. Any
thoughts?

The clutch is not fully disengaging the engine from the transmission with the clutch pressed it. Could be a worn out clutch disk, pressure plate, or throw out bearing. Since the clutch is hydraulic i dont think there is an adhustment.

If the clutch was the problem wouldn't I
have this issue more often, not just from
a cold start? It shifts on the drive and
engages when running like normal.
Thanks for the response.

You may want to check the clutch hydraulic system for leaks. It sounds like it's not disengaging the clutch all the way.
