 Subject: 4.7 engine swap

I have a 2000 dakota quad cab 4x4 4.7 a/t with 200k. I can buy a 4.7 form a 2005 1500 2/wd a/t. am i going to run into alot of problems with this swap. any advice would be very helpful. Thanks.

The cam tone ring/pulse wheel is different, which will require the PCM from the 2005 engine. Or you can swap in the 2000 engine's cam pulse wheel and keep ypur PCM.
The PCM from the 2005 engine is NCG, meaning the TCM is integral to the PCM, not a separate as in the 2000. So a new engine/transmission wiring harness would be needed.
To make things even more difficult, Dodge decided to require your VIN be programmed into the PCM, so the 2005's PCM may not work. I have no expreience swapping PCM's, so cannot say for sure.

how did that work out? I have a 03 dakota 4.7 v8 that i just
replaced with a 00 4.7 v8...everything installed with no problems
however my comp on the 03 is not sending the right signals to the
crank sensor on the 00 motor bc apparently they changed the
cranks in that time to the 03 crank having twice the amount of
teeth. I then tried to put the 00 comp in but the wiring harness
from my 03 does not support it...any advice...is it possible to flash
my 03 comp to work with that 00 motor?
