I still don't understand why people would want a vehicle from a decade that produced nothing but garbage!! Don't you see the second Gen2 Rams "There just falling apart"! Bumpers are sagging down and paint peeling off and so forth.

My advice is going with something like an 04 and up. The 3rd Generation Dakotas are much better built along with the Ram's and the entire Mopar fleet.

I hope that gives you something to think about.

I beg to differ. I bought my `95, brand new, sight unseen (dealer went to next state over and traded a vehicle with another dealer). Got the color and options I wanted, drove it home and have had great luck with it ever since. I have had it: high centered in mud up to the frame; off road getting to hunting/ fishing areas that pushed its limits; and extracted others who were stuck but good. I have loaded the box to the point the bumpstops were touching the axle and towed everything from a 'dunk tank' to a loaded car trailer. I do the regular preventative maintenance and keep cleaned & waxed. I regularly shock folks when I tell them what year it is and that it still wears the original paint. Maybe I'm the exception to the rule, but mine still shines like a new one and is one of the most dependable vehicles I have owned.

Did I mention I have not had a payment since 1999? Ten plus years worth of truck payments will pay for a lot of repairs...and a lot of extras. Yes, this July I did have to re-build the transmission. That was $2,300. 6-10 months worth of payments? So I guess I can spend another nine (plus) years worth of payments on it for repairs (and/or modifications) and still be money ahead.

You can drive a new one and make payments, or you can drive an older one and save some cash. To each his own. Oh...and the older they get, the cheaper the insurance. :-) To each his own.

Shure, Dodge can build great trucks but when they start to break down you're always spending money on one repair bill after another on you're 5 star car or truck.

And having to rebuild a transmission is not really saving you that much money.

It is when that's ALL you've spent in the last three years. 36 payments (3 years) x $300 a month payments = $10,800. $10,800 - $2,300 = $8,500 saved.

Well this isn't really to say the GM trucks are that much better when it comes to transmissions. I now a guy that has a '98 Silverado and the reverse gear is burnt out. But you see more transmission problems with the Dodge brand than any other make.

Did I miss a post? When did this thread become a GM vs...debate? LoL I was simply stating differences in costs between owning older vs newer...and even that all depends on what one wants to do with their money. Cheers.

OK.........Now you know that’s nothing but garbage. As a matter of fact if you have a garbage can near you're computer you should just put you’re punk @ss in it and shut the lid!!

GM makes the best 4 and 6 speeds on the market and you can do a fact check on that one yourself. Now do yourself a favor and leave the library and go back to class!

The early GM four speed automatics are notorious for losing second gear. You are bitter because you had a bad experience. Go haunt a GM board if you like them.
