Subject: '03 factory trailer wiring?
IP: Logged

Message:
I initially put this on an old post, but didn't get any 'takers' so thought I might start a new one. I just bought a used '03 Sport. It came with the 7 pin wiring connector on the back, and I'm assuming it is factory. The window sticker was in the glove box and lists Class IV Trailer Towing Package.
After reading through these posts, I'm wondering...
1) does anyone know what the amp capacity is for the Aux 12V circuit? Hoping to run my fridge while traveling.

2) how can I tell if this truck has the relay for the trailer running lights? I have 11 running lights on my camper, plus LED tail/turn lights.

Not exactly sure of the answers to your questions, but I can tell you my '00 Sport with factory tow package has never been a problem with my camper which has at least 13 running lights. (Did you count the ones in the tail lights?)
How many amps does the fridge draw ? Mine only runs on 110 AC or gas; I run with it on the gas setting with no problems. I think the trailer wire for that circuit is usually 14 or 16 gauge if that helps.

Thanks, Kowalski.

What I've found out so far...

lights:
a guy at the local dealer believes the factory install includes consideration for protecting the light switch. he couldn't find any relays to back up his claim, but based it on the fact the tow package was on the window sticker and his inventory of the fuse/relay box showed 3 fuses related to trailering.

the LED tail lights will reduce the risk.

fridge:

there's a 20A fuse labeled TRLR1. He believes it is for the Aux 12v circuit.

the fridge mfgr website lists 11.7A @ 12VDC (1.7a at 120vac).

Elec brakes:
don't have 'em... it's only a pop-up.

All in all I should be good to go. Time will tell :-)

thanks again.
