Loud rattling from the A/C is definitely NOT normal. Could be the compressor going out or could just be a bad belt tnesioner.

Is the A/C working alright?

Whoever "he" is was wrong. NO compressors are noisy unless there is a problem. When they start making noise they usually don't have a long time left for this world unless they're taken care of quickly.

have you listened under the hood to see if you can locate the source of the noise?

this sort of thing is always among the first things to do.

Look for R-134A oil charge. If not at Wally World go to an auto parts house. I have a feeling if it's making that much racket the oil charge won't help.

found it

the ester oil unlike standard A/C oil is made just for such a problem

When you find it read the can!
and I highly recommend Interdynamics
and only 2 ounces,

You've nothing to lose (ok what 3-4$)
Give it a try

Ester is for R134a conversions. PAG is for original R134a systems, which is what he has, it being a 2002.

ester is FOR ALL R134a SYSTEMS
i just bought 2 cans last night
and it is all clearly marked right on the can
including as said above that it quiets noisy compressors
but i bet you know more then the company that makes it right?

Ester is compatable with the oils of both R12 and R134 which is why its used with convertions. If you have a original r134 system, you should stay with the pag oil, even though ester will work. Its just better to stay with the one oil.
