Is there a way to make this 545rfe trans so you can manually shift with an electronic control modual or something?
I just got this Durango and went to Johnson city TN. in the hills even in the tow/haul mode it will not down shift untill the engine is out of its power range and then goes down 3 or 4 gears and then back up like a raped ape instead of droping a the coverter and then a gear and an other as needed.

Could be gearing.
If you got 3.55 gears in the diff, that's why.
Investigate 3.92 or 4.10 gears.

Possible linkage needs adjustment
-the cable between trans and throttle.

I doubt it has anything to do with the gearing. I had 3.55 gears behind my 45RFE (same as 545RFE except without the extra overdrive gear) and never experienced anything like that. Is it perhaps overdue for service ? Are you giving it enough gas, or just loafing along ? Have you checked for any stored trouble codes ? I'll bet you won't find the linkage "?" is referring to. The FE stands for fully electronic.
