I have just purchased and am researching how to install ball joints on a '97 4wd Dakota. I am sure there are plenty of good posts on this site about ball joint installs, but I can't seem to be able to search through them? Is there anyone that has the capability to search this site and post one or two good links to a ball joint discussion?

If not, is there anyone that has done this install recently and would be willing to share any tips or what to expect? Thanks for the help.

I have done this myself, later year, but I'm sure there isn't much difference.

If tops are still stock, you may need to drill out the rivets. That's that hardest about the top. Tops was simple.

Now the bottom, that drove me nuts. If you can't get em out with a press, have a nice dead blow hammer (32 oz.at least) and a cheap socket with vise grip attached, to beat that crap out of it. Supported the arm with a jack and a block of wood.

Some say add heat, I didn't heat, my opinion it weakens the metal of the lower arm. thus causing more problems later.

Once you get the lower out, add a light coat of grease and press em back in.

Do not turn the tie rod ends, just pop em loose, and prop em outta the way.

And after you are done get the front end aligned.
