I, too, would like to hear some opinions on the Cooper tires.
The ST and STT both appear to be similar to the Goodyear M/T tire, but they have a much more reasonable price. (4 new with mounting/balancing ~$450)

I ran across this board a couple weeks ago, as I was looking for new tires for my 98' Dakota 4x4 Club Cab and it was VERY helpful on helping me decide which way to go. Now that I've got my tires, I wanted to repay the favor.

I decided on buying a Goodyear Wrangler AT/D. These are 31 10.5 R15c tires. Some of you might say, I've never heard of this tire? And I didn't either, until I went to Sam's Club. It is a tire made by Goodyear, only for Sam's. It came down to this tire or the Michelen. I e-mailed Goodyear about "what" this tire was all about, as I currently had Goodyear GSA's on the truck and had been very happy with them over the last 35k miles. Goodyear gave me the lowdown and gave me some feedback that I was asking for on speed rating, ride comfort, wear ability, etc... This is a tire that only Sam's carries, and it's overall warranty etc, has nothing to do with Goodyear, it's up to Sam's to decide.

Bottome line - at a price of $450 vs a Goodyear dealership pric of $710 for the RT/A, I went with the gamble of the AT/D at Sam's. All I can say is what a tire! Handles great on curves, good traction, good wet traction, very smooth ride. I tried to spin the tires on snow/ice with my V-8, and couldn't do it. Check out these tires for the price... oh and by the way, Sam's had the Michelen XLT for only $581..!!

The Wranglers that came stock on my truck were all the
above-loose in the wet stuff and not a whole lot of
traction in the snow,Lets not forget loud also.At 45,000 I
changed to a Set of Yokohama Geolander AT+II's.
Running them at 50lbs. what there rated at.
NO hydroplaning at all.Traction in ALL conditions. And
with the tread pattern looking as aggresive as it does I
thought I wouldn't be able to talk to the person next to
me.The tires seem to be quieter than my Goodyear's.
Summit has 'em for $89.95/each plus $10.00 shipping.I
mounted and balanced myself though.

StevenA,

Why did you run the Yokos at such a high pressure?

50lbs seems a bit much shouldn't they be around 35psi?

re-read his post "what there rated at" is why he is running at 50 lb.
If you can't spin tires on snow/ice with a V-8 something is very wrong. a guy that works for me does it in a V-6 dak with a locker rear all the time with the Goodyear AD/t on them.

I was just wondering why he was running such a high psi. Because what he's "running them at" is the maximum cold air pressure, which when at operating temp, would leave them bowed out and only the center block of tread touching the road. This would reduce rolling resistance and increase gas mileage but would adversely effect handling and tire life.

The PSI rating on the sidewall is not what you should go by.
The truck has a sticker on the drivers door that says what pressures you should be running.
Wrong pressures will wear out tires prematurely and ,
{depending on whether your too high or too low in the front or the back), will make the vehicle understeer or oversteer.
Not what you want when cornering a bit fast for the road conditions, which can happen.

Im going to agree with mrhotwheels on the Michelin LTX's. I bought a set of 4 for mine, not cheap (close to $500 complete) but wearing very well so far. Before that I had a set of Cooper Discoverer STE's that wore very well. I wouldnt however ever buy Firestone or Goodyear's. I've run into problems with tread seperation with the firestone tires (on a car), and overpricing and fast wearouts on the Goodyears. I only got 40K miles on the orig Goodyear Invicta GA's that came stock on my truck.
