Subject: 4.7 timing???
IP: Logged

Message:
i just had my heads shaved on my 2000 4.7 and put it all back together and it runs fine except when i floor it...it will rev to about 5000 rpm then stop, it sounds like its floating the valves. Did i put it back a little off timing?? i cant figure out what would cause this.. any help appreciated. thanks

Not a rev limter at 5 grand for a 4.7, that's for sure. Greendak01 - I'd suspect the timing chain could be off too. No way 4.7 valves should float at 5000 - made to spin a good bit higher than that.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

If the valve timing is off, even one tooth of one cam, it won't run that well.

If it runs fine, just not revvfing past 5 grand, theres another problem.

My 2 cents.

Drive it like its paid for!

If it's a nine year old engine (2000), how many miles are on the valve springs? Did you replace them when you had the heads off? Where they shimmed properly when the heads were reassembled?

the engine has 109000 miles on it...the heads werent taken apart, just milled, and put back on.
