I just got a 1998 dakota and i need tires. wat do you guys suggest is the best tires. my truck is a pathetic two wheel drive so i need something that is gunna be pretty grippy in the the snow. I would appreciate any suggestions. thanks

I recommend Firestone Destination A/T tires--best truck tire I have ever driven (25 + years of driving trucks). They are great on a wet road, excellent in the snow--16 inches in Connecticut over the weekend and don't make noise. The tread design is very aggressive looking. I just replaced the Good Year Wrangler RTS that came on the 06 Dakota 4 x 4, they were spinning and fish-tailing with 35,000 miles on them. I was also having problems on the boat ramp with the Wranglers. Monro Tire and Brake had the best deal I could find on them--buy three get the forth free and they don't charge for the valve stem or balancing. The sale ends soon. I researched the tires and they were rated very well. A different tire than the Firestones on the Fords a couple of years ago. I am so impressed, the I will put them on the Jeep next time around too. Hope that helps.

I know nothing about tires for snow but I just got a set of Firestone Destination LE's for my 2001 CC. They are a great tire for the money, I paid $422 including tax, lifetime rotation and balance and road hazard/flat repair policies. I got them at Tires Plus. They run quiet and have great traction, even better traction than the Michelin's I had before. We don't have snow here, I live in Florida. I know of some other guys who used the new Firestones too and they say they run pretty well.

Kevin, stick with what the factory put on them.
Mine were Goodyear Wrangler RTS. They gave me
almost 60k of service and road nice...
Don't go oversize either! Not good for the
overall of the truck.

I have had great luck with pirelli scorpion A/T. Wear rate is great and traction is even better.

The only tires I've used in snow were on my old 95 CC 4x4 when I lived in Indiana - I bought it in july 1998. They had some goodyears on them, can't remember what specific model. They were End of Life'd when I went to get my first set of tires so I got some bf goodrich all terrain T/As. They were great for snow and off roading but really sucked on wet roads.
my current 02 has michelin ltx MS tires. They had those on there when I bought it used in 04. When I got new tires i put another set on them. Great all around tire though I haven't been in any heavy mud or snow.
