Subject: Need to tap gas tank to start
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 92 dakota, 5.2L that will only start if I give the gas tank a light tap with a hammer. After doing so it will run great untill the truck is shut down in which case I need to repeat this procedure. Any suggestions as to what the problem may be is appreciated. I am hoping to not have to replace the whole fuel pump assembly due to the outrages cost.

Thanks Jeff

I *think* a new fuel pump is in order, Jeffster.
It's either stuck or bad connection within the
tank.

Before you begin dropping the tank or removing
the bed, double check all connections on the top
of the tank first. You might get luckey and find
your problem there.

Let us know what you find...

Thanks for the response, I am just going to cut a 12"+12" hole through the bed to access the top of the tank. I have a canopy and bedliner so it will be well covered after. We did the same thing to a Dodge van last year and it worked well.

BETTER YET,

JUST ADD A LITTLE BIT OF KEROSINE IN YOUR TANK, AND WATCH SOME BLUE FLAMES SHOOT OUT OF YOUR EXHAUST!
