Subject: oil gauge 95 SLT

Hi all,

I just got a 95 SLT with a 5.2 and 118 k miles.
Aside from the fuel gauge not working and the tranny shift issue from second to third, my oil gauge is all over the place. It will drop all the way down on the freeway, then go up, go down on idle, go back up. Has anybody else had this issue. It sounds like just the gauge to me but not sure.

If there are no noises or other telltale indications of engine problems, try replacing the oil pressure sending unit and see if it does better.

sounds more like a wiring problem to mee, maybe just a loose connector?

I replaced the sending unit in my old 95 3.9L. It was simple enough to do. It sits near the distributor cap from what I remember. There is a special socket you can buy. I bought one from advance that was not deep enough. I returned it and bought one from napa that fix perfectly. I took the new sender and socket to advance and showed the guy it wasn't deep enough. The socket was supposed to be for chrysler vehicles. The guy there was just as confused as i was.

I can't remember but I may have posted instructions on how to test the sender. I traded the 95 in for my 02 in jan of 2004. You can do a search and look.

I have a 1988 and my oil gauge did the same thing I just cleaned the connector and it was fine, just unpluged sprayed some carb clearner in it and it was fine. It could be the sensor its self though.
Good Luck
