Just picked up an 02 Quad Cab 4x4... 4.7 V8 120K, was looking for more info, anything good to know about this truck. Appears to have the NP233 Transfer case, OD Auto... not familiar with this Tranny or if its a decendant of the older Chrysler units such as the 727 etc. The rear axle is the stop sign looking cover, which is the 9 1/4 I think? Any links to good sources of info or comments about these trucks here would be appreciated, stuff related to lifting, durability of the truck and its compnents... anything of a technical nature. Thanks

Sounds like you have a great truck (I'm a bit biased).

The 45RFE tranny is not a derivative of the 727, those would the be the 42/44/46/47/48 RH and RE trannies. This is a new design having a technology ancestry of the A604, 42LH and 42LE trannies.

Check out these sites for good information.

There is lots of info to be found and shared here as well, but sadly trolls have reduced its appeal so not many people trade here now.

What's your left foot doing?

The front of your truck can be easily lifted close to 2" just by cranking up the torsion bars. I believe transmissions with the 42 designation are more closly related to the weaker 904 design, not the 727 or the 45RFE. 45RFE is a unique design, electronically controled with planetary gearsets. Your truck should be fairly durable.
