As far as I know, there are no after market skid plates. You'll need to get lucky and find one at a dealer.

That's what I did for my 02 dakota - i found front skid plate and transfer case skid plate.

You can make them, there are plans on here somewhere if your felling froggy. I made them and they work great, just a little heavy.
If you can't find them on here and you'd be willing make them let me know and I will email them to you when I get home.

some of the dealers have them listed on their website. You're probably going to have better luck searching the net than calling your local dealer.

'00 is IFS, wasn't that the first year for the new front diff ? And you are mistaken about the push button 4x4; my '00 is still the manually connected lever. Perhaps you are thinking of the AWD version ?

Eyeball it and see if you think it will work. Mine is an 04 4x4 IFS ex-cab and they still worked. If you look at the picture of the front plate you can tell I had to re-drill the front two holes to mount it correctly. So just FYI I wouldn't drill those front holes until you mount everything else. It will be a pain in the a$$ to drill them while its under your truck, but it will be a cleaner look. I could get under and measure where I put the new holes, but make'em first.

The Dakota 4x4 has always been IFS

Yea, 2000 was the first year for the C205mm front diff and rack & pinion on the 4x4.
