Message:
i have a 2001 dodge dak quad cab 2x4 the AC blows ice cold but
very very slow, like when its on high its like its on low and low is so
slow i gotta put my hand up to the vent to feel the slightest bit of
air moving. i changed the blower motor out thinking it was just
getting worn out but im still having this problem. Any ideas???? i
need help ASAP, i live in Arizona and this heat is killing me!

The resistor is what controls the fan speed (high to low).

if you do a search you can find more information on it.

Could be the evaporator fins are plugged with crap or a mode door problem. See if air is also coming out defroster, floor, etc.

I was thinking the resistor as well but all the posts with resistor
problems only have air when its on the highest setting and none at
all in lower settings , mine has air in all its just like they all took a
step or 2 down. im gonna try to find a resistor today ive already
called 2 places and they had none

Doubt its the resister. Check for battery voltage at the motor at high speed.

it till monday anything else i can check? i checked the evap fins and
all is normal there also check the swinging door on the inside when
and its not that it blows defrost when i select defrost and blows
forward and only forward when i select that

with the switch on high it should have the same as, or very close to battery voltage.
Good Luck

Positive voltage at the blower motor should be consistent with battery voltage no matter what fan speed is selected. The blower motor resistor controls fan output speed by varying the resistance of the ground side of the circuit going to the fan. It has nothing to do with the positive voltage at the fan. The problem is most likely a faulty blower motor resistor. It's a common problem on Dakota's. I recently had exactly the same problem and a new blower motor resistor fixed it like new. I have so much air moving now it will blow my hair around. I live in Florida so I know how important good A/C is.

Get the resistor from the Dodge dealer, not Napa or an independent parts store. Dodge recently did a redesign on the resistor packs and now they are built with much better and longer lasting parts. They cost about the same at Dodge as they do at Napa too. Mine was $15 at the dealer. Arizona should be close to the same price. I understand Dodge sold all their old previous design stock to Napa.

Anyway it's very easy to replace it. Look under the dash below the glove box and to the left of the blower motor housing. You will see a square plug with 2 8mm hex head screws holding it in to the bottom of the HVAC housing. Remove the screws, unplug the old resistor, plug in the new and screw it back in. You'll have to cut the little plastic tabs off the mounting base corners on the new one. It's helpful to remove the floor vent tube under the resistor first but it's a pain to remove the screw holding it in up near the firewall.

thanks jim, ill hit up my local dodge dealership in the morning to
see about the resistor i hope its only 15, the same place wanted
like 900 dollars to fix a vibration from my left front wheel and
brake masters did it for 150$ and works like a charm so my
dealership is obviously a rip off but ill hope for 15 anyways lol even
though i know they are gonna say around 35$

If you really want to take the guess work out of it simply hotwire the blower motor to the battery positive & ground, making sure to observe polarity or the fan will run backwards. If it works ok you have a power or ground problem in the circuit.

Jimmy9190, thanks for the information, I didn't know the resister was for the ground, I was thinking it controled the positive not the ground, but I can see where it would that way.

Yeah I didn't know it either until I read about it in the Dakota Service Manual. It looks like a lot of cicuits in our trucks are controlled and regulated by ground instead of power. At least in the 2001's anyway.

That's how Chrysler Corp makes them. Almost all circuits are at +12V and waiting for a ground to be generated, either by a switch or some control unit, to complete the circuit and operate the fan, wipers, headlights, etc.

Also true of most other automobiles, period, and most electrical circuits in general, nowadays.
