Subject: How to fix your Infinity Speakers
IP: Logged

Message:
A common problem with the infinity speakers in the driver's and passenger side doors of your Dakota is that once they get old, the foam around the cones of the speakers detaches from the frame.

This gives you a muffled "thud" every time a base beat comes out of your speakers - as the cones hit the frame of the speakers.

The cones in my 2000 Dak went bad at about 8 years of age/93K miles.

Rather than going to your Dodge dealer and spending $70.00 a piece, you can fix them for about $4.00.

Remove the door panel and take the speaker out.

Gently pry the plastic ring/cover from the front of the speaker. If you push gently on the foam surround around the outer edge of the speaker cone, you will see that it's no longer connected to the frame. That's why you hear the "thud".

From the bottom of the speaker, gently push the cone up so that the foam surround is seated properly on the frame.

Get some E6000 craft adhesive from your local arts & crafts shop, or some "amazing goop adhesive" (I think you can get these at Home Depot or Lowes). Put a thick bead of the adhesive around the outer edge of the foam surround between the foam and the outer frame. Wait just a few minutes (don't allow it to harden), then put the plastic ring/cover back on the speaker while the glue is still wet.

Let it dry, put everything back together. Good as a new speaker. Can't tell the difference.

Only thing is your truck may smell like the glue for a few weeks, but it goes away eventually.
