anyone here with a 4.7L V8 Run the superchips performance setting on their dakota?

I was curious as to how much better my mpg would have to be to cost justify running the performance setting using premium gas vs 87 octane setting or stock setting and running low grade gas.

at current gas prices (I used $4.00 for low and $4.30 for premium) at 20 gallons of fuel used i calculated various mpg levels (14 mpg to 20 mpg at .5 mpg increments) for both low and premium gas and calculated the cost per mile driven (cost of 20 gallons / miles driven at various mpg levels).

I found that my mpg had to increase only 1.5-2 mpg (allows for a little padding because of the .5 mpg increments I used and I calcualted down to 4 decimal points) to cost justify (actually be cheaper) to run the premium gas and performance setting vs stock setting or 87 octane program.

I'll continue to tweak the numbers (.2 mpg increment) and further refine the gas prices to be more accurate and post those numbers

mostly stock truck ..
02 QC 4x4 auto 4.7L V8 (90k miles)
3.55 LSD
K&N FIPK (plastic tube one not aluminum)
265/75/16 tires
flowmaster 50 SUV single in dual out
halo plugs (25k miles on them)
new MAP and IAC sensors

I have added weight (skid plates, leer shell, tool box, optional tires).

I filled up the 02 dakota today. I have been running premium gas and superchips performance setting and it got 17.13 mpg

my fill ups running the 87 octane program were under 15. that's over a 2 mpg improvement.

the difference besides running the perf setting is that I replaced IAC and MAP. Gonna run this take of premium out and calculate mpg then run a tank of reg back on the 87 octane program and calculate.

hope it's not a fluke.

Dan, I've been running 89 octane (mid-grade) and the performance setting on my Superchips for quite a while now. Even without the superchips, I found that I got better mileage with the mid-grade than I did with 87 octane, and it was by about 2MPG. I recall doing a post about it, but it's probably been a couple years.

Did you see my other question to you, in a reply to someone else? Did you ever own a 60's Buick convertible?

Mine definately isn't related to driving habbits. My hours changed and now i have to drive in rush hour traffic. Even with 2 days of that (i don't drive truck that much as i drive my car mostly) i still got 17 mpg. Atlanta traffic is some of the worst in the country.

where's the best place to get a superchips tuner? When I go to their website and put in my truck information ('03 4.7 QC) it comes back with no products available. thanks.

I noticed that too. perhaps they have stopped manufacturing them.

I bought mine from autoanything.com. I found a better price (by about $10-15) at another site and they matched it. They were running a special, free overnight shipping when I bought mine.

I bought my k&N fipk from them as well, they also matched a better price and had free shipping on it because it was over $150.

that's the only 2 things I've ordered from them but so far so good.
