I have a 1989 shelby dakota, a 302 V8 and two wheel drive. I am interested in making it a 4wd vehicle. What routes can be done.

I was thinking of buying either a 1989 v6 4wd auto or 1992 302 4wd auto and moving over the transmission rear end and front wheel assemblies. Will either approach work and which would be easiest.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Um...they didn't put a 302 V8 in Dakotas...

318 and 360

Aside from that...unless you're just REALLY looking for a project, it'll be much cheaper to just trade in for a 4x4.

Don't know what I was thinking, it is a 318

I don't mind the labor, might even pay a shop to do the work, I was planing on buying a working 4x4 and striping it. I'd much rather modernize a numbered Shelby than a just have a generic 4x4... Call me crazy

Brian, the easist way is to get a 4X4 then put your cab/sheet metal on the 4X4 chassi. It can be done, but it is a lot of work.
Good Luck

Converting a "numbered Shelby to 4x4 does not modernize it, only modifies it to the point it is no longer an original. If you want to keep it a Shelby, best way to go is to get yourself a 2nd Dakota that's already 4x4.
