Subject: V6 auto Ok for towing car tralier?

1996 3.9 auto. Is this enough truck to pull a car tralier with approx. 2900 car on tralier? If it will do the job from time to time (few times a year) is there anything I should be warned of of watch out for?

Depending on the weight of the trailer, this could be too much for your six. Watch out for lethargic performance, the possibility of a burnt out transmission, and a trailer that will push you right off the road if you don't load it with enough tongue weight. That's the major stuff. Have the tow package, with the extra transmission cooler ?

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Honestly I have no idea if I have the towing package or not. I dont recall seeing an oil cooler though. The car trailer is one of the smaller drive on with beaver tail. The non enclosed type. I have acutally pulled it once before with an suv on the trailer and had no problems, but I wanted to know if was something I should stop doing. (hauled the SUV to the bone yard for a friend).

Hey Nick, why don't you start by pulling a 50'ft trailer and then just work your why down to size!

You can tow that trailer with a garden tracter. But not very well.

As for your V6, it has the same chassis/suspension/brakes as the V8. It will tow that trailer, but not very fast. Give it plenty of time to get up to speed, and keep your speed down to something reasonable. Watch your gauges close and don't let it overheat. Keep it out of OD.

You will be fine. Just be careful and watch out for that idiot TexasTodd. He likes to drive 100mph down the highway endangering everyone on the road. He thinks since he is a Vol. Fireman it is ok. It is time for the idiot to wake up.

Dear A$$hole,

I spent 10 years busting my A$$ on the stud ranch trying to save money to get me both a truck and car that I have a need for. You see it's my right to speed in my Dakota R/T and even in my Mini Van. Sometimes I might pass you going 25 miles over the limit or even 40 in the kick in the pants Z06.

So if any of you have any questions or comments about what I just wrote then feel free to repsond below.

The real TexasTodd here,

Wow,

This guy really has something eating at him.

If he could just have some constuctive, informative posts, instead of blasting me all the time, it's getting old.
