Subject: CB ANTENNA?

What is the best fiberglass antenna to buy. I've been looking at Firestik, but just don't want to pay the price for one. I was looking at the one with the tunable tip. Is this a good antenna to buy? I have Valor antennas on my truck now, but they are cracked and I need new ones. Any suggestion or help would be great. Thanks

You get what you pay for. Firestick is expensive because they're the best.

I Assume your aware the best ones are sold at the big truck stops.I have had a lot of antennas but been out of cb'n a few years. I never thought that much of fire sticks although better then average. They really need to be co-fased to be great but to do that you need a diesel truck with wide mirrors or a greyhound type buss or big motot home. They need to be a quarter wave length apart (8 ft). Last antenna I bought came from a CB radio repair shop. I forget the name but it had about a 4 ft steel stinger adjustable at the base at the metal encased load. Learn all you can from the smartest guys you can find, not the BSers

I had a firestik on my '97 Dakota for about 8 years. Seemed to work pretty good. They also sell a mounting bracket specialized for that gen Dakota, it also has worked very well. It mounts on the left front fender.

I appreciate the website address you gave me "Josh".
That helped alot. I have a 4 ft. antenna on my truck right now, and I was thinking about getting a 3 b/c I can't go into certain places w/o whacking the antennas, then I have to get out and take them off to go under a parking deck or such.

I like this place for purchasing my CB equipment...

For my CB radio antenna though, I have a magnet mount Wilson Little Will that I picked up at a truck stop.

I keep it stuck to the wheel well in the bed of the truck. It works just fine right there, especially since I park the truck in the garage at night!

ewraven - how tall is your antenna? If it doesn't stick up taller than the cab, I wonder how the SWR is. The cab might also interfere with your forward transmission signal, making forward transmissions much less powerful than rearward transmission (the opposite of what you typically want, at least on the highway)

But if it works, it works :)

It is a three foot antenna and sticks up at least a foot past the top of the cab.

My SWR's are fine, like in the 1.0 range on channel 19. That is with both an external gauge and the one built into the CB.

I can typically get 4 to five miles recieve/transmit range around here where everything is flat on the highways.
